Common questions
What should you know about playground safety inspections?
Every facility is different. These answers explain the services and limitations behind a PlayGauge proposal.
What is included in a comprehensive playground safety inspection?
A site-specific assessment of accessible playground equipment, surfacing, use zones and observable conditions within the agreed inspection scope. Findings are supported by appropriate observations, photographs and, when necessary, field measurements or probing. The report provides priorities and recommendations; scope depends on the site and assignment.
How is a routine inspection different from a comprehensive inspection?
A routine safety inspection emphasizes visual and operational condition changes, maintenance issues and follow-up items. It supports ongoing owner maintenance checks, but does not replace a comprehensive standards-informed assessment or the site's own inspection program.
How often should a playground be inspected?
The appropriate schedule depends on traffic, equipment, environment, age, maintenance history, manufacturer guidance and applicable requirements. PlayGauge's standard Annual Safety Program provides one comprehensive and three routine visits per year. The owner remains responsible for regular inspections and maintenance between visits.
Which playground standards and guidance are considered?
Depending on the agreed scope and equipment, inspections may refer to applicable CPSC playground guidance, current relevant ASTM standards, manufacturer instructions and operating requirements. Specialized laboratory or field impact-attenuation testing, such as ASTM F1292 testing, is not part of a standard inspection unless separately arranged.
Will an inspection certify that a playground is completely safe?
No. An inspection documents conditions observed within a defined scope at a particular time. It cannot guarantee freedom from hazards, replace maintenance or ensure future safety. Reports communicate findings and help owners prioritize appropriate corrective actions.
Do you inspect HOA, school, childcare and municipal playgrounds?
Yes. PlayGauge's planned clients include HOA and community associations, property-management portfolios, private and charter schools, childcare operators, churches, parks departments and special districts. We will confirm site access, scope and commercial terms before scheduling.
How much does a playground inspection cost?
Current planned starting rates are $595 for a comprehensive inspection, $225 for a routine visit and $1,195 per year for an Annual Safety Program with four documented visits. Portfolio discounts and regional travel considerations apply. See detailed services and pricing →
Can you inspect several properties or counties in one agreement?
Yes. PlayGauge is designed around annual route scheduling for portfolios across Travis, Williamson, Hays, Bell, Coryell, McLennan, Falls and surrounding counties. Locations farther from the Austin area are quoted based on coordinated routes and availability. Check county coverage →
What does the written report include?
The report is structured to communicate site and inspection details, documented conditions, priority-based findings, recommendations and important limitations. See our illustrative sample report (PDF) for an example of the layout.
Do you sell equipment or complete repairs?
No. PlayGauge is inspection-only and does not sell playground equipment, surfacing or repair services through its inspection business. This separation supports objective findings and recommendations.
